Swim Lessons

Are your children ready to take the next step in their development as a swimmer? Are you looking to improve your swimming skills? Elmhurst offers a variety of courses for swimmers of all ages and skill levels.

Who can come?

Elmhurst offers swim lesson for current members of the pool only.

How do I sign up?

You can sign up at the pool. A sign-up sheet is available at the sign-in table with a list of skill requirements for each level (see below). We prefer that you sign up for lessons in person.

When are the lessons?

Two weeks of swim lessons will be offered this summer. We are looking to add an evening swim lesson session in order to better accommodate our members.

How much do the lessons cost?

First child – $45
Second child – $40
Third child – $35
Fourth child – $30

How old does my child need to be?

We ask that your child be 3 years old to start swim lessons.  Typically, children under 3 years participate in Mommy and Me classes.

What skills are required for lessons?

Level 1-A (little pool)

  • Getting your face wet, with head under water for 3 seconds
  • Float on back with help
  • Kick with and without kickboard
  • Jump from side with help
  • Have fun!

Level 1-B (big pool)

Same skills as Level 1-A but in deeper water.

Level 2

All skills from Level 1 plus:

  • Jumping in and swimming to ladder with no help
  • Freestyle arm movement
  • Backstroke
  • Orientation to deep water

Level 3

All skills from Levels 1 and 2 plus:

  • Additional work on freestyle and backstroke skills
  • Jump off diving board and swim to ladder
  • Tread water
  • Diving from side

Level 4

All skills from Levels 1, 2, and 3 plus:

  • Butterfly stroke
  • Breaststroke
  • Racing start
  • Dive from diving board
  • Flip turn
